Get to know ABDO! ABDO is a leading educational publisher of books and digital resources for today’s libraries
and schools. For more than 25 years, ABDO has strived to provide the best in reading and research for children
and young adults.
Having served school and public libraries since 1985, ABDO has earned a reputation as a publisher that delivers
family-friendly, education-based titles and unsurpassed customer service. Its strong family roots were planted
in 1985 when Joseph M. Abdo, together with daughters Jill (Abdo) Hansen and Melody (Abdo) Borth, founded
the company Abdo & Daughters.
The company started small. With just nine employees, it began by publishing a limited number of high-interest nonfiction books. Soon, burgeoning interest prompted the company to expand both its title offerings and its employee base. In the mid-1990s, sons Jim and Paul Abdo joined the company and ABDO Publishing Company was born.
Today, the Minnesota-based company has four distinguished divisions: ABDO Publishing Company, Spotlight,
Magic Wagon, and Abdo Digital. With over 100 employees, ABDO Publishing Company publishes around 600 titles
per year, which are distributed through a mix of sales representatives, wholesalers, direct mail, and the Internet.
ABDO maintains an editorial office in Edina, a suburb of Minneapolis, and a 30,000 square foot order fulfillment, customer service, and library-processing center in Mankato, MN.
ABDO is known throughout the industry for its distinct content, quality, design, ease of ordering, and customer service. It sets the bar for highly educational, fun, exciting new product offerings. We appreciate your business and all you do for your young patrons, and we thank you for making ABDO a part of your library.
